More for Me and You Podcast

Episode 26 | The Producer's Pick with filmmaker Gabriel Lopez

Mometu Season 1 Episode 26

Welcome back to the More for Me and You Podcast, the official podcast of Mometu, where we celebrate the filmmakers, storytellers, and creators shaping the future of cinema.

Today, I’m excited to introduce you to an incredible up-and-coming filmmaker, Gabriel Lopez — the director of Best Kept Shut and a recent graduate from Ringling College of Art & Design. Gabriel takes us through his inspiring journey, from his roots in Miami, to his college years at Ringling, and now to Los Angeles, where he’s chasing his dream of becoming a full-time filmmaker.

We dive into his recent win at the 2025 Mometu College Film Festival, where his award-winning short Best Kept Shut not only took home Best Horror/Thriller/Sci-Fi, but also earned the prestigious Producer’s Pick Award, sponsored by Insurgence Films. That honor is opening the door for Gabriel to expand his short into a full-length feature film — and he’ll be the one in the director’s chair.

Later in the episode, Gabriel and I review a film he personally chose, a chilling psychological horror-thriller called Open 24 Hours, which you can stream for free right now on Mometu.

This episode was a mix of fun conversation and insightful perspective — the kind you only get from a passionate young filmmaker at the very start of his career. You won’t want to miss this one.
